Schematics in the Field: Install Bans, a Weak Link, Files That Leave

Running desktop CAD in the field hits three walls: no permission to install, a weak connection, and the file leaving the company. EupCAD opens in the browser, works offline, and the project file never leaves your device.

When an engineer goes to the field, they discover that their computer is no longer a workstation. The computer on site is usually locked down by company policy: no new software can be installed, no license is available, cloud services are blocked. Add a weak field connection and the question "who is allowed to see this file?" and classic CAD is almost unusable on site.

The three walls in the field

  • Install permission: no software can be installed on the on-site stations; a tool that requires an install is a tool that cannot be used on site.
  • Weak connection: the field office works over the local network; when the connection drops, everything cloud-based stops.
  • The going file: every cloud transfer is company data leaving the device. In a client's facility, uploading the client's files to a cloud is often unacceptable.

The fix: no install, the connection is optional, the file stays home

EupCAD gets past all three walls at once:

  1. No install — a modern browser is enough. Nothing is installed on the on-site station; you type the address and the drawing opens.
  2. The connection is optional — the application also works offline. When the connection drops, drawing, reports and file access continue; when it returns, you pick up where you left off.
  3. The file stays home — the project is created in the browser and downloaded as a single file. It is never uploaded to a server; if it is not meant to be shared, it is never sent. A panel drawn in a client's facility stays on the client's device.

Practical scenario: a change order on site

On site, the client requests a circuit change. In the classic flow: the engineer on site notes the change, returns to the office, updates the drawing, and regenerates the lists. Days pass; meanwhile the field works from the old schematic.

In the EupCAD flow: the change is made on site, in the browser. Even offline, the drawing is updated and the BOM and terminal schedule are re-downloaded. By the end of the day, the field is working from the current drawing and the current lists — the change produced office-grade output without a trip to the office.

Next step

In the demo project (ZONE1_PUMPS), browse the pages in the browser; then turn off your connection and reload the application. See that drawing and report access continues.
